After recent renovations of our dull sun room, we had created a beautiful sitting area. It was a perfect gathering place for entertaining or just reading a book. However, I wasn’t completely satisfied with it for some reason I couldn’t decide. It had matching furniture, bright wall colors, and various fabrics, but there was something missing.
Then I finally realized what it was lacking: plants! Natural, living plants!
Nothing spruces up an area like houseplants. They bring color and beauty into any room with their varying shapes, sizes and smells.
If you have a family, buying houseplants gets a little harder. You have to start thinking about not only the visual presentation of the plant, but also whether it is safe for pets and children.
Kids and animals have the unpredictable tendency to chew on things that are not fit for consumption. Some plants can be harmful or—even worse—poisonous. So you are going to need to choose your houseplants carefully.
Spider Plant: These plants are hearty and easy to grow. They tend to grow very full and the baby spider plants add a lovely, unique feature to the plant.
Jade Plant: This plant has sleek and attractive thick leaves with a stem that will evolve into a woody tree-like trunk.
African Violets: If you enjoy blooming plants, try this choice. Their flowers come in a wide array of colors and leaves with different shapes and a velvety texture.
While these plants are not poisonous, they can still be harmful for pets and children. After you choose plants that are safe and beautiful, make sure that they are placed in proper areas out of reach.Tags: african violets, christmas cactus, house plants, houseplants, jade plant, safe house plants, safe house plants for kids, safe houseplants, spider plant
